Fort Wayne Comes Up Short of South Dakota State at Home
10/1/2016 5:36:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell 1-0 to South Dakota State at Hefner Field on Saturday (Oct. 1) to open Summit League play.
The Jackrabbits scored in the 17th minute when Kyli Nelson knocked in a right-side-pass from Nicole Hatcher.
Shortly after halftime, a weather delay was put in place, keeping the athletes cold for just over two and a half hours. Once play resumed, the Mastodons (3-9-0, 0-1-0 Summit League) kept the Jackrabbits (6-4-1, 1-0-0) scoreless.
Kiley Dunning was in goal for the full 90 minutes and added six saves, increasing her Summit League leading total to 85. She is second nationally in saves through 12 games.
Gaby Romo and Deanna Hecht each contributed a shot on goal, while Chloee Foor had a shot of her own.
As a part of the Pink Out promotion, all of the Fort Wayne squad wore pink to help increase awareness about breast cancer, as well as sold ribbons to help raise money for the cause.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 7) as the IUPUI Jaguars visit Fort Wayne for a matchup at Hefner Field at 7 p.m.
