FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A goal in the first minute gave the Fort Wayne women's soccer team the lift it needed to tie in-state and Summit League rival IUPUI 2-2 on Friday at Hefner Field.
Gaby Romo's first goal of the season came on a double-assist from Deanna Hecht and Kallianne Mogler sent to the middle of the 18, which she knocked into the goal only 34 seconds since kickoff.
IUPUI (7-5-2, 1-1-1 Summit) answered with a goal 13 minutes later, when Tori Minnich scored the first of her brace.
Hannah Kroger got a goal of her own later in the first half by knocking a set piece over a wall of defenders into the right upper 90.
Minnich scored the second of her pair in minute 57, equalizing for a second time.
Fort Wayne (3-9-1, 0-1-1) tallied four shots on goal, two coming from Kroger and one from both Mogler and Romo.
Kiley Dunning snagged five saves to make her Summit League leading total 90.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 9) as they travel west to visit the Omaha Mavericks at 1 p.m.
