SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - It was a tough road trip for the Fort Wayne women's volleyball team as the Mastodons closed out the weekend with a 3-1 (15-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22) loss to South Dakota State.
Natalie Seiler led the 'Dons with 12 kills and a match-high five blocks. Somer Johnson also finished with five blocks. Nicole Rightnowar earned a match-high 20 digs to go along with 11 kills. Natasha Medic finished perfect from the floor with 10 kills on 10 swings. Madison Jaqua dished out a team-high 43 assists while making eight digs.
Fort Wayne cruised to the first-set win as it scored nine of the final 12 points in the frame. South Dakota State flipped the script in the second set as it scored the first four points as the 'Dons could not overcome the early deficit. Another 4-0 run by the Jackrabbits to begin the third set gave them a 2-1 advantage in the match. With the score tied 20-20 in the fourth, SDSU scored the next two points as the Mastodons were unable to regain the lead down the stretch.
Fort Wayne returns home to host in-state rival IUPUI on Tuesday (Nov. 1) at 7 p.m.
