
2007 Men's Volleyball Team To Be Inducted Into Hall of Fame Feb. 10

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Nearly 10 years after a historic NCAA Championship Finals run, the 2007 Fort Wayne men's volleyball team has been selected to enter the Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame. On Friday, February 10, 2017 the team will be honored as part of homecoming festivities.

Previously, only individuals have been honored in the Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2007 squad will become the first team to receive the honor.

The 2007 team finished 23-8 (9-3 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association), reaching the NCAA Tournament Finals after toppling No. 1 Pepperdine 3-1 in the semifinals. Fort Wayne had seven wins over top 25 teams, including No. 11 Loyola and No. 6 Ohio State in the MIVA Tournament. Fort Wayne dropped only one set in the month of April, which came in a 3-1 win at Lewis. The Mastodons went undefeated in the month of January, going 8-0 to start the season. The squad swept 14 opponents throughout the year.

Fort Wayne finished the season ranked third in the AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball Coaches Poll, which tied the highest ranking in school history.

C.J. Macias led the 2007 squad in kills, recording 527 on 1,081 attempts on the year. Macias started all 31 matches during his junior season as an outside hitter. He also recorded 34 service aces. Macias was named to the AVCA Division I-II Second Team All-America for the second season in a row following the 2007 regular season. Additionally, he received a MIVA First-Team honor and Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week.

Josh Stewart started all 31 matches at middle hitter, logging 282 kills on 520 attempts for a team-best .458 hitting percentage. In his final season in Fort Wayne, Collin Lundeen served as the primary setter for the Mastodons and was credited with 1,409 assists (12.47 per set). Lundeen was selected to the All-MIVA First Team.

The team also performed well in the classroom, with 11 student-athletes selected for the MIVA All-Academic Team.

Head coach Arnie Ball was named the 2007 AVCA Division I-II Men's National Coach of the Year.
