Women's Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Match
11/11/2016 10:50:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
TULSA, Okla. - The regular season came to a close for the Fort Wayne women's volleyball team as the Mastodons fell to Oral Roberts 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-21).
Natalie Seiler, Lauren Hoffman and Nicole Rightnowar all led Fort Wayne with nine kills on the night. Somer Johnson finished with eight for the 'Dons. Madison Jaqua dished out 28 assists to go along with seven digs and a pair of aces. Olivia Hahn led all players with a match-high 13 digs.
With the score tied 9-9 in the opening set, ORU used a 6-1 stretch to take the lead. The Mastodons fought back with a 5-1 run to lead 23-22. Fort Wayne fought off three set points, before the Golden Eagles were able to score the final two points to take the frame.
The 'Dons held an early lead in the second set, but a 4-0 run by Oral Roberts gave them the lead for good. Despite hitting .400 in the final set, it was a similar fate for the Mastodons in the third, as an early lead was unable to stick after ORU used a 7-2 advantage to take the set and the match.
Despite the loss, the 'Dons will be the No. 4 seed in the Summit League Championship, which begins Nov. 18 in Denver, where they will face either IUPUI or Oral Roberts.
