Mastodons Drop Opening Game of Invitational

DAYTON, Ohio - The Fort Wayne women's basketball team dropped its opening game of the Wright State Invitational Presented by Holiday Inn, 69-47 to Miami (Ohio).
Zaria Atkins led the Mastodons with 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds. KeShyra McCarver also finished in double figures with 11 points and two steals. Anna Lappenküper and Rachel Rinehart led the team with two assists, while Rinehart added five rebounds and two steals.
Miami jumped out to the early lead with a 14-0 run to begin the game. The Mastodons got on the board with a pair of free throws by McCarver at the 5:11 mark, but the 'Dons trailed 29-8 after the first quarter. The Fort Wayne offense continued to struggle in the second, scoring its first points at the 4:52 mark of the period as the Mastodons were unable to fight back from the 45-17 halftime deficit.
For the day, the 'Dons finished 17-of-50 (34%) from the field, 2-of-18 (11.1%) beyond the arc and 11-of-16 (68.6%) at the free throw line.
Fort Wayne takes on host Wright State, tomorrow, December 20, at 1:30 p.m.
