Three-Point Streak Ends as Mastodons Fall to WMU
12/6/2016 10:33:00 PM | Women's Basketball
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - De'Jour Young did a little bit of everything for the Fort Wayne women's basketball team, but the Mastodons were unable to maintain pace with Western Michigan, falling 61-35.
Young led the 'Dons with nine points to go along with a game-high seven rebounds and added an assist. Isis Parker finished with seven points while Zaria Atkins added six. Peyton Fallis finished with five points, five rebounds and a team-high two steals.
The two teams put on a defensive clinic in the first quarter, as both sides were limited to single-digits. The Mastodons held Western Michigan without a field goal in the final 7:34 of the quarter as the 'Dons led 8-6.
The Fort Wayne defense continued to hold the Broncos another 3:57 to begin the second quarter before WMU hit a three-pointer with 6:03 left. From there, Western Michigan out-scored the Mastodons 21-7 in the quarter as the 'Dons trailed 27-15 at the half. An 11-0 run by the Broncos in the third put the game out of reach down the stretch.
For the game, the Mastodons shot 13-of-56 (23.2%) from the field and 9-of-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line. The 'Dons were unable to connect from long range (0-for-13), snapping the second longest active Division I consecutive games made streak at 533 (Quincy, Jan. 24, 1998).
Fort Wayne closes out the week with a trip to Chicago where it will face UIC at 4 p.m. ET.
