Young and Rinehart Power Mastodons to First Road Victory

CHICAGO - The Fort Wayne women's basketball team used an 8-0 run in the last 1:27 to pick up its first road victory of the season as the Mastodons defeated UIC 61-55.
De'Jour Young led the 'Dons in nearly every category with 17 points, a season-high nine rebounds, a career-high four assists, and added a steal. Rachel Rinehart hit 8-of-11 at the free throw line to finish with a season-high 16 points to go along with three assists and a team-high two steals. Isis Parker added nine points and two steals off the bench.
The 'Dons took the early lead, but a 7-2 run by the Flames to end the first quarter put Fort Wayne in an 11-9 hole. The Mastodons began the second on a 9-0 run to regain the lead 18-11. Young hit a layup at the buzzer to send the 'Dons into halftime with a 30-19 lead.
UIC used a 9-2 run early in the fourth quarter to take a one-point lead, 48-47, but a pair of Mastodon layups gave them back the lead with under five minutes remaining. The Flames made a 7-1 run to lead with two minutes to play, but Rinehart converted on an and-one opportunity to give the 'Dons back the lead 56-55. Fort Wayne out-scored UIC 8-0 in the final 1:27, including six free throws, to cement the victory.
For the game the Mastodons connected on 21-of-49 (42.9%) from the field, including 2-of-13 (15.4%) beyond the arc and knocked down 17-of-23 (73.9%) at the charity stripe.
Fort Wayne has the week off for final exams before traveling to Dayton, Ohio for the three-day Wright State Invitational Presented by Holiday Inn, December 19-21.
