2/20/2016 10:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Junior DeAngelo Stewart/Detroit, Mich. scored a career-high 23 points to lead IPFW to a 94-90 men's college basketball Summit League home win past Omaha Saturday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne. Redshirt-senior Max Landis/Indianapolis added 20 points, while senior Michael Calder/Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and redshirt-freshman John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. each had 19 points for the host Mastodons (22-7, 11-3 Summit League), who led 54-44 at halftime and maintained sole possession of first place in the league standings with the Homecoming and Senior Night victory. Tra-Deon Hollins scored a game-high 24 points for the visiting Mavericks (17-12, 9-6 Summit League), who remain alone in third place in the standings. IPFW will return to the road for its final two regular season games, beginning at Western Illinois next Thursday, Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
IPFW, ranked No. 16 in the latest Mid-Major Top 25, scored the first seven points of the contest in front of a raucous, sell-out capacity crowd of 1,832. Appropriately enough, the three seniors who were recognized during a special pregame ceremony scored the first seven … Joe Reed/Greenwood opened with a three-point field goal, followed by two free throws from Calder and a jumper from Landis. Omaha closed to within 7-5 at 15:42, but the Mastodons used a 9-0 run to lead 16-5 at 13:25, and extended the run to 16-4 for a 23-9 advantage at 11:34. Konchar started the outburst with a slam dunk and finished it with a jumper, while Stewart came in off the bench and made two three-pointers during the run. IPFW responded with a 9-4 run to lead 73-63 at 11:14 after five quick points from Landis, including his first and only three-pointer at 11:51 of the second half. The Mavericks battled back to within 81-78 at 5:13 after a 15-8 run sparked by six points each from Jake White and Randy Reed, and the visitors finally managed to tie it for the first time at 88-88 with 1:32 remaining, courtesy a conventional three-point play by Hollins.
