IPFW Wins on Senior Day, Clinches Spot in Summit League Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Summit League Tournament, defeating North Dakota State 85-69, in its final game of the regular season. IPFW honored the team's four seniors, Kamilah Carter, Hannah Lee, Courtney Ogle, and Alexis Richards, before the game for their efforts over their careers as Mastodon.
With the win by the 'Dons and loss by Denver against Omaha, IPFW will be the No. 7 seed in the Summit League Tournament and will play on March 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
IPFW had four players in double figures, led by Carter with a career- and game-high 30 points, along with five rebounds and four assists. Josie Fisher and De'Jour Young had 16 points each. Young pulled down a team-high six rebounds and added a game-high three steals. Fisher led the 'Dons with a game-high five assists. Keanna Gary put up 10 points and finished with six rebounds.
The Mastodons came out of the gates ready to play, going on a 15-3 run in the first 4:50 of the game. IPFW excelled defensively, scoring eight points in the first quarter off North Dakota State's six turnovers.
The 'Dons had another lengthy run, 15-2, in a span of 5:46 thanks to three consecutive 3-pointers from Carter to open the second quarter, and giving her as many points as the NDSU team, 14. Young made two steals and a triple to close out the second period, giving IPFW a 42-28 advantage going into the half.
North Dakota State pulled within eight, 51-43, with 5:24 to go in the third quarter, but the Mastodons pulled away and ended the quarter leading 64-51. IPFW went on a 14-3 run late in the fourth quarter, earning its largest lead of the game, 85-62, before the Bison closed the game out on a 7-0 run.
As a team, the 'Dons connected on 25-of-56 (44.6%) of their field goals, including 7-of-18 (38.9%) from beyond the arc, and a season-high 28-of-31 (90.3%) from the free throw line.
