
IPFW Looks to Knock Off SDSU at Summit League Championship

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The No. 7 seed IPFW women's basketball team will look to knock off No. 2 seed South Dakota State in the opening round of the Summit League Championship March 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET. For the second year, the Summit League Championship will be hosted at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center after record attendance during the 2015 tournament.

Since joining the Summit League for the 2007-08 season, the IPFW women's basketball team is 2-8 all-time at the Summit League Championship. The Mastodons won their opening round games twice, including the only double-overtime game in tournament history, a victory over Western Illinois in 2013. IPFW's 106 points are second most by a team in tournament history, and the 207 combined points are the most in a tournament game.
Even year Tradition?...
Since the inaugural Mid-Continent Women's Basketball Tournament in 1993, the No. 7 seed is 4-18 all-time in opening round games. All four wins have come since 2005, including three in even numbered years (2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012).

• UMKC in 2005 is the lone 7th seed to make the Summit League title game, falling to No. 4 seed Oral Roberts 45-42.
