
IPFW Begins Two-Game Road Swing At South Dakota Thursday Night

VERMILLION, S.D. -- IPFW, ranked No. 15 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, will play at the University of South Dakota in Summit League men's basketball action Thursday, February 4, at The DakotaDome in Vermillion, South Dakota at 8 p.m. ET. The Mastodons (18-6, 7-2 Summit League) of second-year head coach Jon Coffman are led in scoring by redshirt-senior Max Landis/Indianapolis (17.8), redshirt-freshman John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. (12.5) and senior Joe Reed/Greenwood (10.8). The Coyotes are coached by Craig Smith, who is also in his second season, and are led in scoring by seniors Casey Kasperbauer (13.5) and Tre Burnette (12.9), along with junior Shy McClelland (11.5).

Landis scored a game-high 19 points to lead IPFW to an 88-67 Summit League home win past Western Illinois in Fort Wayne. The Mastodons, who led just 38-34 at halftime, opened the second half with 12-4 run to lead 50-38 at 16:18 following a three-point field goal by junior DeAngelo Stewart/Detroit, Mich., and two more three-pointers from Stewart and Landis, respectively, made it 57-40 with 14:33 on the clock, while a Reed layup at 11:55 made it 62-44. The Mastodons increased their margin to 20 points on three occasions in second half, while WIU managed to close to within 74-62 at 5:46 after a three-pointer, but IPFW answered with a basket inside from redshirt-junior Brent Calhoun/Indianapolis at 5:19 (76-62), followed by a slam dunk in traffic by Konchar at 4:35 (78-62), assisted by Calhoun, and the Mastodons' final margin was their largest of game.
Landis led IPFW with his game-high 19 points, making 3-7 three-pointers, adding a game-high six assists. Reed added his 17 points on 6-6 shooting from the floor, including 1-1 from three-point territory, and 4-6 free throws. Senior Michael Calder/Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Stewart (4-6 3FGs) each finished with 16 points, while Stewart (14 second-half points) added a game and career-high nine rebounds, and Calder had six rebounds and four assists, as well.
