
Chesnutt and Kurosky Win on First Day of Match Play

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. - The IPFW women's golf team dropped both its matches on the first day of the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge, falling to Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
Played at the par-72, 6,068-yard Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club: Royal Lakes Course, the tournament is being hosted by Bowling Green.
The Mastodons were swept in their opening match to Western Michigan, 5-0. In the first pairings, Brenna Sherwood fell to Chloe Lawrie 6 and 5. At the No. 2 position, Candi Keller dropped her match to Sarah White 5 and 4. Monica Dorner had the closest match of the morning in the third group, falling to Kaitlyn Watkins 2 and 1. In the fourth position, Jenna Kurosky fell to Claire Hernandez 5 and 4. The final pairings saw Madison Chesnutt come up short to Julia Champion 3 and 2.
The afternoon match against Central Michigan came down to the wire, but the Mastodons fell 3-2. Chesnutt picked up a victory over Holly Hines, 4 and 3, as she led wire-to-wire. Kurosky fought back after trailing early to defeat Chloe Guschewski 2 and 1. Keller fell in her match 7 and 6 to Natalie Johnson. The matches of Dorner and Sherwood came down to the final hole. In a back-and-forth matchup, Dorner fell to Bria Colosky 1 up. Sherwood led most of the way in her pairing but was unable to hang on, falling to Kristen Wolfe 2 up.
IPFW takes on Dayton in its final match of the tournament on February 9, with the first group teeing off at 9 a.m. off the No. 10 tee.
