Groninger Shoots 1-Under-Par on Final Day in Florida

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Jacob Groninger carded a 1-under-par 71 to lead the IPFW men's golf team during the final round of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular as the Mastodons finished 10th with a two-day score of 908.
George Mason hosted the event at the par-72, 6,966-yard El Campéon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort. South Florida, No. 18 in the Golfstat rankings, won by 21 strokes with a three-round total of 849. Chase Koepka also of South Florida bested the 102-player field by five strokes shooting a 9-under-par 207 for the weekend.
The 'Dons carded a 302 in the final round to finish seven strokes back of ninth place Toledo. Groninger finished the weekend tied for 26th overall with a 54-hole score of 223. Groninger was one of 15 golfers to shoot under-par during the final 18 holes. Zach Schroeder closed out the tournament with a 2-over-par 74 to finish with a 227 and tied for 43rd. Devin Jenkins carded a 79 in the final round and ended the weekend in a tie for 45th with a 228 total. Josh Keating shot a 78 on day two, wrapping up his tournament in a tie for 49th, with a two-day score of 230. Closing out the scoring for the IPFW team was Oliver Gibson with an 81 on the day and 245 for the tournament to finish tied for 92nd.
Individually, Dan Wert recorded a team-high four birdies during the final round to finish at 4-over-par on the day and 237 for the weekend to tie for 68th place. Daniel Shepard, also playing as an individual, carded an 81 for the round, and finishing tied for 71st with a 54-hole score of 238.
IPFW next competes at the three-day Kingsmill Intercollegiate beginning March 20 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
