Groninger Shoots 2-Under-Par on Final Day to Lead IPFW

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -The IPFW men's golf team recorded the fifth lowest score of the final round, a 296, at the Gary Freeman BCU Spring Invitational Golf Tournament, as the Mastodons jumped three spots to finish ninth with a two-day score of 924.
Host by Bethune-Cookman at the par-72, 6,902-yard LPGA International, Lynn University took home the team title with a 54-hole score of 23-unde-par 841. Martin Cancino from Lynn also captured the individual title by one stroke, shooting an 8-under-par 208.
The final round saw IPFW's Jacob Groninger card a 2-under-par 70 to finish the tournament tied for 35th at 227. Groninger was one of three golfers to shoot 2-under-par or better for the round, as he recorded a pair of birdies and an eagle on No. 5, a 518-yard par-5.
Zach Schroeder carded a 4-over-par 76 on the day to finish tied for 52nd with a two-day score of 232. One stroke back tied for 54th was Devin Jenkins and Josh Keating with 54-hole scores of 233. Keating led the 'Dons in the final round with three birdies. Oliver Gibson rounded out the team scoring for the Mastodons tied for 67th with an overall score of 242.
Playing as an individual, Daniel Shepard led IPFW for the tournament, shooting a 226, including a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 33rd. Dan Wert also competed as an individual and placed 58th with a two-day score of 234.
IPFW will remain in Florida to compete at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, which will also be played at LPGA International, March 7 and 8.
