Mastodons Hold 17-Stroke Lead After Day One

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The IPFW men's golf team holds the top three spots after day one of the Lonnie Barton Invitational, as the Mastodons lead the team scoring with a 2-under-par 286.
Hosted by LIU-Brooklyn at the par-72, 6,917-yard LPGA International - Jones Course, IPFW holds a 17-stroke lead over Wagner. The team score of 286 is tied for the second lowest par-72 round in program history, and is the lowest round since carding a 279 at a par-71 course on April 23, 2012 during the opening round of The Summit League Championship. The mark is also tied for eighth all-time in the record book for lowest overall round, regardless of par.
A pair of Mastodons sit tied atop the individual leaderboard as Zach Schroeder and Devin Jenkins each carded a 2-under-par 70 on the day. Jacob Groninger is two strokes back on the day in third place with an even-par 70. Josh Keating finished the round tied sixth, sitting at 2-over-par 74. Daniel Shepard rounded out the team scoring for the 'Dons with an 81 and currently is tied for 37th overall.
Playing as individuals, Oliver Gibson ended his round tied for sixth with a score of 74 while Dan Wert is tied for 18th with a 77.
The Final round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the LPGA International - Jones Course.
