
Sherwood Leads Mastodon Charge In Opening Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Brenna Sherwood's 3-over-par 75 paced the IPFW women's golf team in the opening round of the Benbow Invitational as the Mastodons finished the day tied for sixth at 325.
Hosted by Butler at the par-72, 6,039-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Course, Valparaiso holds a nine-stroke lead over Northern Kentucky and The Citadel, carding a 312. Katie Willenbrink also of Valparaiso is the individual leader heading into the final round, holding a one-shot lead with a 1-over-par 73.
Sherwood heads into the final 18 holes tied for fourth after shooting her lowest round of the year. Madison Chesnutt also recorded her best round of the season, an 80, and is tied for 12th after day one. Abigail Carlsen finished the opening day tied for 30th place with a round or 84. Two strokes back and tied for 36th overall is Paige Bird. Candi Keller rounded out the scoring for the Mastodons with a 93 to head into day two tied for 52nd.
Individually, Jenna Kurosky completed her 18 holes with an 82 and is tied for 19th position while Hannah Jennings carded a 106 and is in 61st place.
The final round of the Benbow Invitational will be a shotgun start tomorow, March 8.
