Keating and Wert Pace Mastodons on Day One

MUNCIE, Ind. - After the opening day of the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational, the IPFW men's golf team sits in seventh place with a 36-hole score of 367-375-742. The tournament counts the top five scores on each team of six players, rather than the traditional format of playing five and counting four scores.
Host by Ball State at the par-70, Delaware Country Club, the tournament is being played at 6,438 yards. The host Cardinals hold a seven-shot lead heading into the final round. Keegan McKinney also of Ball State leads by one stroke over the 72-player field, carding an even-par 140.
IPFW enters the second day one shot back of sixth place Oakland and five back of fifth place IUPUI.
Josh Keating and Dan Wert paced the Mastodons on the day, shooting rounds of 147 to tie for 21st. Keating carded scores of 73 and 74 while recording a team-high eight birdies, third most in the field, including five in the afternoon round. Meanwhile, Wert shot scores of 74 and 73 and finished with three birdies. One shot back in a tie for 24th is Zach Schroeder after firing rounds of 72-76-148.
Tied for 34th is Jacob Groninger with scores of 76-74-150. Devin Jenkins finished with six birdies on the day, four in the first round and two in the second, to finish his 36 holes with a combined score of 73-78-151 and is tied for 38th. Rounding out the team scoring for the 'Dons in a tie for 57th is David Watterson, who shot 75-80-155 for the day.
The final round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 16 off the No. 1 and 10 tees.
