Mastodons Sweep Western Illinois to Begin League Play 2-0

MACOMB, Ill. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball squad swept Western Illinois 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-20) to begin the Summit League season with a 2-0 record.
Lauren Hoffman led the Mastodons on the day with 14 kills. Somer Johnson earned her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs. Madison Jaqua also earned her fifth double-double of the year with a match-high 35 assists and 13 digs. Nicole Rightnowar added eight kills and 10 digs while Natalie Seiler finished with a match-high five blocks (two solo). Coming off her record-breaking performance on Friday night, Olivia Hahn had a match-high 20 digs.
In the opening set and leading 16-14, Fort Wayne used a 6-1 run to finish off the frame. The Mastodons dominated the second set, holding the Leathernecks to a -.212 hitting percentage. The 'Dons jumped out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back.
Western Illinois opened the third set by scoring the first three points before the Mastodons responded with a 5-1 run to take the lead and eventually the match.
Fort Wayne returns home to host Denver on September 30 at 7 p.m.
