FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's volleyball team hosted its annual Pink Out match to benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation Saturday night, October 21. Although the Mastodons dropped the match to Denver 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19), the team helped raise funds for the foundation through pink ribbon donations and silent auction items.
Nicole Rightnowar and Madison Jaqua each earned a double-double for the 'Dons. Jaqua led the way with a match-high 37 assists to go along with a team-high 14 digs. Rightnowar finished with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Katie Crowe led the Mastodons with a match-high 15 kills as Natalie Seiler added 11. Julia Wayer matched Jaqua with 14 digs on the night as Victoria Mills added nine.
A back-and-forth first set saw 19 ties and nine lead changes. The Mastodons closed out the opening set victory thanks to a pair of Denver errors. The 'Dons held the early lead in the second set, but a 3-0 run by the Pioneers gave them the lead for good. Denver scored the opening point of the third set as it never trailed. The Pioneers followed suit in the fourth, scoring the first point again en route to an early 6-2 advantage to take the set and the match.
Fort Wayne begins a four-match road trip when it travels to South Dakota on October 27 for an 8 p.m. ET match.
