Fleming Scores Fastest Goal in Loss to Denver
10/27/2017 9:25:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Despite having the fastest goal in program history, Fort Wayne women's soccer fell to Denver 3-2 on Friday (Oct. 27) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Paityn Fleming's first goal of the season came just 28 seconds after the opening kick, which surpassed former teammate Gabby Romo's goal from 2016 for the fastest in Fort Wayne's history. Romo's goal was 34 seconds into the game against IUPUI, but Fleming's edged the record by six seconds. Fleming took a chance outside the 18-yard box, and on the cold, wet evening, the keeper was unable to get to the ball placed in the right corner. The rest of Friday's first half was quiet, as neither team scored for the remaining 44:32.
Macee Barlow scored Denver's first goal in the 71st minute, then Hannah Bricker scored the second in minute 77. Allyson Hayner scored the equalizer for the Mastodons in the center of the 18 on a feed from Deanna Hecht with just over three minutes remaining. Jessie Dancy scored the final goal of the night with just 17 seconds left on the clock, giving Denver the 3-2 final score.
The Mastodons led in corner kicks 4-3. Both of Fort Wayne's shots on goal resulted in a goal. Haley Lydon logged nine saves in her full 90 minutes of play in the net.
Fort Wayne falls to 1-16-0, 0-6-0 Summit League while Denver improves to 9-8-1, 5-2-0 Summit League. Fort Wayne concludes the season on Sunday with a match against Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Kallianne Mogler and Kassidy Simpkins will be the two seniors honored on Sunday.
