VERMILLION, S.D. - Fort Wayne men's cross country finished fourth at the 2017 Summit League Championships on Saturday (Oct. 28) with a team score of 106. The fourth place performance is the best ever finish by a Fort Wayne men's team in a Summit League meet.
The 'Dons were led by Logan Kitchen. He set a school record 8K time with a 25:27.10 performance. His 10th place individual finish earned him All-Summit League Second Team honors and is the best ever individual finish by a Mastodon at a men's cross country Summit League Championship event.
Alex Barton was next for the 'Dons, taking 20th (26:12.50). Bret Unger earned 23rd (26:34.20) and Sam Williamson followed in 26th (26:43.21).
Robert Peck ran a time of 27:02.23 for 29th. Sammy Moran took 26th (27:16.91). Kurt Unger ran the course in 27:51.92 to take 38th. Gabe O'Keefe finished in 39th (27:54.17) and Connor Shaffer was 40th (28:13.29).
South Dakota State (31) won the team title.
The Mastodons are back in action on Nov. 10 at NCAA Regionals.
