Men's Preview:
After placing fourth out of six teams at the Summit League Conference Championships, the Fort Wayne men's cross country team heads to Terre Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. Logan Kitchen finished 10th at the Summit League Championship to earn All-League Second Team honors. The 'Dons will send nine runners to this year's meet held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. At regionals last year, the Mastodons were led by Sam Williamson with a school record 10K time of 32:42.9 and Logan Kitchen with a time of 33:10.3. In addition, Connor Shaffer, Alex Barton, Robert Peck, Austin Rockstroh, Bret Unger and Kurt Unger will all be returning to the Regional. New to the event is freshman Sammy Moran. The men's 10K Regional Championship Race features 30 teams and 268 individual competitors.
Women's Preview:
Following a fifth place finish at the conference championships, the Fort Wayne Women's cross country team will send seven runners to Terre Haute this weekend for the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. Emma Rafuse finished second in the Summit League Championship last weekend with a time of 21:02.68, earning her a spot on the All-Summit League First Team. Leading the 'Dons at this event last year were Rafuse and Morgan Blyly, running times of 22:17.5 and 22:53.9, respectively. Danielle Frank, Rebecca Sippel Hannah Aschliman, Caitlyn Kiekhaefer and Sophia Hirzel will make the trip to Indiana State for the race on Friday. The women's 6K championship race features 33 teams and 297 individual competitors.
About The Meet:
The regional consists of teams from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. The races will determine which teams advance to the national meet. The NCAA Championships field will consist of 31 teams, 18 of which will be automatic qualifiers as the top two teams in each of the nine regions advance. The NCAA selection committee will add 13 at-large teams following the conclusion of regional weekend. Individuals can also qualify to the NCAA Championships. Once the 31 teams are determined, the top four finishers in each regional race, provided they finish in the Top 25 of the race, will earn berths into the national meet.
