Mastodons Unable to Find Rhythm From Beyond the Arc
11/18/2017 9:57:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne women's basketball team was unable to overcome a cold night shooting from beyond the arc, as the Mastodons fell to Findlay 75-55.
Jaelencia Williams led the 'Dons with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds. Anna Lappenküper also finished in double-digits with 10 points and a team-high three assists. De'Jour Young added seven points and eight rebounds for the Mastodons.
Findlay scored the first two baskets of the game, as the 'Dons were never able to overcome the early deficit. Fort Wayne pulled to within two, 27-25, after a pair of free throws by KeShyra McCarver with 4:33 left in the second quarter. That would be as close as the Mastodons would get as the Oilers went on a 17-0 run over the next 6:14, to put the game out of reach.
For the night, the 'Dons connected on 18-of-51 (35.5%) from the floor, 3-of-20 (15%) on three-point attempts, and a season-high 84.2 percent (16-of-19) at the free throw line.
Fort Wayne returns to action when it hosts UIC for the Mastodon's annual Fitness Day, Tuesday, November 21 at 11 a.m. Over 750 elementary age students from the Fort Wayne area will attend the event, which includes a healthy lunch and exercise activities prior to the game.
