Men’s Soccer Falls To Eastern Illinois 2-1 (OT) On Senior Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne men's soccer team saw their quest for a Summit League Tournament bid fall short on Saturday (Nov. 4) night thanks to a 2-1 (OT) loss to Eastern Illinois.
The Mastodons opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Romain Lopez finished from 10 yards in front of the goal. Zach Tom assisted on the goal thanks to a nice pass to Lopez.
It stayed 1-0 until the 74th minute when Zach Medawattage scored a header off a free kick to knot the score at one. Erik Isaksson had an assist on the goal.
The contest went to overtime where it was Medawattage again. His header off a corner kick in the first minute of extra time ended the game. Federico Verlicchi sent the ball on the corner kick.
Both teams took 11 shots in the game.
It was senior night for the 'Dons. Prior to the game, Carmelo Morales, Edel Ensaldo Bustos, Cam Sinclair, Jeremiah Ziaty, Oscar Uyamadu and Keelan Barker were honored in a ceremony.
A win would have put the 'Dons in the Summit League Tournament, however, with the loss Fort Wayne sees their season end at 5-9-4 (0-4-1 Summit). Eastern Illinois improves to 4-8-6 (2-2-1 Summit) and advances to league tournament play.
