Fort Wayne Drops Road Match at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne men's volleyball team dropped its road match at No. 11 Ball State 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-21) in Worthen Arena on Tuesday night (Feb. 7).
The Mastodons held close in the second set, having 16 ties with the Cardinals, but Ball State took the last four points of the set. The 'Dons had a .229 hitting percentage in the second set.
The 'Dons fell behind early in the third set, trailing 12-6 before a timeout, but Fort Wayne went on a 8-3 run to bring it within one. Pelegrin Vargas' series of four serves late brought the 'Dons within two.
Austin Neace came off the bench early, recording a career-high 10 kills. Vargas pitched in seven kills on the night. Jack Carlson and Michael Keegan both dug out six Cardinals' attempts.
Fort Wayne falls to 4-10 (1-2 MIVA) while Ball State improves to 10-2 (2-1 MIVA).
The Mastodons and Cardinals face off again on Friday in the Gates Center. This serves as homecoming and will include the announcement of the induction of the 2007 men's volleyball team to the Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame, as well as Raul Papaleo's jersey retirement.
