Men’s Soccer Starts 2017 With First Tie In Over Two Years

DAYTON, Ohio – Fort Wayne men's soccer opened the 2017 season with a 0-0 tie at Wright State in double overtime on Friday (Aug. 25) evening at Alumni Field. The tie is the first for the Mastodons in over two seasons. The last time the 'Dons tied was Oct. 7, 2014 at Detroit.
Fort Wayne's draw on Friday came against a Wright State team which won the 2016 Horizon League regular season title.
Wright State held a 14-13 edge in shots while the 'Dons held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Zach Tom led the 'Dons with four shots, including a shot in the second overtime which hit the post.
Freshman Brendan Stangel started in goal for the 'Dons. The Indianapolis native picked up seven saves to earn a shutout in his first collegiate action.
The 'Dons are back in action on Sunday (August 27) in a 4 p.m. start at Hefner against Dayton.
