Fort Wayne Drops Summit League Opener to Omaha

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Despite several close chances in the second half, the Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell to Omaha 1-0 in the Summit League opener at Hefner Soccer Complex on Thursday (Sept. 28).
Lydia Holtmann scored the first goal for Omaha in the 14th minute, giving the Mavericks a lead that would hold until the end of the match. Omaha controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, but the 'Dons controlled for most of the second.
Jessica Schoenfeldt had a header 11 minutes into the second half that nearly crept past the Omaha keeper, but it was stopped just shy. In minute 75, Kallianne Mogler had a shot from the left side of the six that hit the post, followed by a wide left shot from Deanna Hecht. Paityn Fleming also had a shot that hit the post eight minutes later, that Hecht followed up with a shot that went right.
