Senior Allyson Hayner Scores in Senior Day Loss
10/13/2018 5:54:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne's comeback came up just short on Saturday (Oct. 13) in a 4-3 loss to Eastern Illinois on Senior Day.
Purdue Fort Wayne's six seniors; Haley Lydon, Allyson Hayner, Paityn Fleming, Lindsay Yankasky, Chani Warfield and Deanna Hecht were honored for their time as Mastodons before the match.
The Panthers jumped out to a big lead, knocking in three goals before halftime. The first two came before the six-minute mark and the third came in minute 38. Itxaso Aguero, Pilar Barrio and Victoria Wharton collected a goal each.
The Mastodons mounted their comeback with a goal from Kailyn Wade that she booted in from inside the 18. The passes came from the midfield through Kayla Wisniewski and Kendall Quinn, leading Wade at the top of the box. Hayner found her first goal of the season on her own Senior Day. She came crashing into the six to corral in a corner kick from Wisniewski. This cut the deficit to one goal.
EIU answered with a goal of their own from Haylee Renick, when she controlled an errant pass off a Mastodon defender. Wade scored her second of the day on a lefty shot from inside the 18 after a scramble to give the final line of 4-3.
The 'Dons led in shots and corner kicks at the end of the match 15-14 and 5-2 respectively. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 3-10-3, while Eastern Illinois improves to 5-7-4. The Mastodons have South Dakota in Vermillion S.D. next, with that contest set for Thursday (Oct. 18) at 4 p.m.
