Mastodons Finish Fourth, Elzey Fifth at Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team jumped four spots on the final day of the Dayton Flyer Invitational, as the Mastodons placed fourth with a two-day score of 874. The 'Dons carded a 2-over-par 286 during the second round and a third-round 3-over-par 287.
Hosted by Dayton at NCR Country Club - South Course, the par-71 course was played at 7,019 yards. Davidson captured the team trophy with an 861. Joel Durnford from Illinois State was the individual medalist with a 3-under-par 210.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished eight shots back of second place Dayton and Illinois State. The 'Dons came in ahead of eight teams, including four Horizon League squads.
Leading the way was Callahan Elzey with a fifth place finish. Elzey carded a pair of rounds at 2-under-par 69, to finish the week at 1-under-par 212. He finished both rounds with five birdies, as he led all played for the tournament with 12 total birdies.
Tying for 23rd place was Zach Schroeder. He carded scores of 72 and 71 to finish with a 221. One shot back in a tie for 30th is Clark Tiller. He finished third in the tournament with 11 total birdies, shooting scores of 72 and 76 on the final day. Eric Brinker tied for 41st place with a 54-hole score of 224. Brinker finished his tournament with rounds of 73 and 71. Cody White rounded out the scoring for the 'Dons with a 229. White tied for 56th with scores of 76 and 78.
Playing as an individual, Josh Keating placed 63th with a 231, shooting rounds of 78 and 75 on the final day.
The Mastodons close out their fall season at the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport & FGCU Classic October 28 and 29 in Estero, Florida.
