'Dons Fourth, Elzey Sixth After Day One at Tom Tontimonia Invite

WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team sits in fourth place after day one at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational with a 36-hole score of 586. The Mastodons carded rounds of 292 and 294 on the day.
The tournament is being hosted by Cleveland State at the par-71, 7,022 yard Lakewood Country Club. Oakland leads the team standings with a 36-hole score of 569. Thomas Giroux also of Oakland and Kevin Scherr from Youngstown State are tied for the individual lead with a two-round score 3-under-par 139.
The 'Dons finished the day five shots back of third place Dayton.
Purdue Fort Wayne is led by Callahan Elzey, shooting rounds of 71 and 70 to finish at 1-under-par 141. Elzey is tied for sixth place after recording seven birdies on the round. Eric Brinker and Clark Tiller are tied for 22nd place shooting a 148. Brinker finished with four birdies to shoot a pair of 74's. Tiller led the Mastodons with five birdies during the opening round and added two more during the second to finish with a 73 and 75. Zach Schroeder carded seven birdies and sits one shot back in a tie for 33rd with scores of 74 and 75. Zac Turi rounded out the team scoring for the 'Dons, shooting scores of 79 and 75 to finish the day tied for 57th with a 154.
Playing as individuals are Cody White and Parker Deakyne. White finished the day with a 158 and is tied for 66th after shooting rounds of 77 and 81. Deakyne carded three birdies on the day and shot a 162 (81-81) to finish in 73rd place.
The final round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational begins tomorrow, October 9, at 9:15 a.m.
