Chase Johnston Signs NLI With Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Basketball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Chase Johnston (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Westminster Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball program.
Johnston, a 6-3 guard, helped the Westminster Lions to win back-to-back FHSAA Class 4A state championships and qualify for the state title game three seasons in a row. Johnston, one of the top three-point shooters in the country, averaged 18 points, six rebounds and five assists as a junior in earning Second Team All-State honors. He was First Team All-Broward County by the Sun Sentinel. Johnston has scored more than 1,750 points in his prep career and has connected on a school-record 386 3-pointers for coach Ehren Wallhoff. He had a 44-point game and owns a 91 percent mark from the free throw line. The guard is ranked the No. 28 prospect in the PrepHoops 2019 rankings for the state of Florida. He was also named a South Florida Fab Five selection. He connected on 13 3-pointers in a regional championship game.
"I'm excited to have Chase join our program," Purdue Fort Wayne head coach Jon Coffman said. "Not only is he a high-level basketball player but he is an exceptional student. On the court, he is a great fit with his versatility to play with the ball in his hands and off the ball. He is an elite level shot maker coupled with a high basketball IQ. Because he shoots the ball so well I believe that he is an underrated passer but this does not get lost in our evaluation. I love how he makes his teammates better and has a versatile skill set to be very successful in our program. He is unselfish, shoots it, gets into the paint and makes his teammates around him better. And most importantly, he is a winner who has been coached by a close friend of mine and one of the best coaches in the state of Florida, Ehren Wallhoff. Chase has led Westminster Academy to three-straight state championship games, won 2-of-3 state championships and has Westminster marked as the favorite to challenge for a third title. We are looking forward to a tremendous career both athletically and academically from Chase."
The Mastodons return to the court on Friday (Nov. 16) at Dayton.
