Men’s Basketball Falls In Opener At No. 21/20 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball opened the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday (Nov. 6) evening with a 96-71 loss at Pauley Pavilion to No. 21/20 UCLA.
John Konchar totaled 25 points with eight rebounds and six assists. He was 11-of-18 from the floor. Matt Holba added 12 points and Kason Harrell scored 11.
The 'Dons finished 26-of-71 from the floor (36.6 percent) with UCLA shooting 40-of-74 (54.1 percent).
UCLA opened a double-digit lead five minutes into the contest. The 'Dons made it a seven-point game at 30-23 with 5:46 left in the first half. Konchar and Matt Weir drained back-to-back 3-pointers in the scoring push. However UCLA would respond, taking a 48-31 lead to the break. The closest the 'Dons would get in the second half would be 13 points.
Jarred Godfrey (seven) and Dee Montgomery (three) scored their first collegiate points in the contest.
Kris Wilkes led the Bruins with 27 points while adding 10 rebounds.
UCLA is now 1-0. The 'Dons are 0-1. It is a quick turnaround for the Mastodons as they have a home date on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 7 p.m. against Earlham. The game will be played at the Gates Sports Center.
