‘Dons Win Home Opener With 112-51 Defeat Of Earlham

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodon bench scored 61 points as Purdue Fort Wayne defeated Earlham 112-51 on Thursday (Nov. 8) evening at the Gates Sports Center in the home opener for the Mastodons.
The 'Dons did plenty of work inside, scoring 52 points in the paint.
Freshman Jarred Godfrey led the 'Dons with 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting with six rebounds and four steals. Another newcomer, junior Dee Montgomery scored 18 points while adding three assists and three steals.
John Konchar finished with 17 points, all in the first half. He moved into fifth all-time in program history in scoring. He now has 1,465 points, passing Nick Wise's (1999-00) 1,450. Up next on the scoring list is fourth place Bruce Roland, who scored 1,477 points from 1986-89.
Marcus DeBerry recorded his first double-digit game as a 'Don, scoring 14 points. Kason Harrell added 12 points.
10 different 'Dons scored a field goal. The Mastodons had a 46-22 lead at the break and then outscored Earlham 66-29 in the second half.
The game was an exhibition for Earlham, the 'Dons are now 1-1.
The 112 points are the second most in a game during the NCAA Division I era (2001 – present) for the Mastodons. Just short of the 114 they scored against Defiance last year. Thursday's win over Earlham tied for the second most field goals in a game (41).
The 'Dons are back in action on Sunday (Nov. 11) at Ohio State. The game will start at 4 p.m. ET.
Thursday's game was Purdue Fort Wayne's final game at Gates until Jan. 24 vs. Omaha. The next nine home games will be played at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
