Mastodons Tie Program Mark with 11 Blocks in Win Over Goshen

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team put on a defensive clinic in its 86-45 victory over Goshen Sunday afternoon (Dec. 16). The Mastodons improved their record to 4-7 on the season.
As a team, the 'Dons tied a program record with 11 blocked shots in the game, while also forcing 20 Goshen turnovers. The 11 blocks tied a program mark which has been reach twice before, Nov. 23, 2010 against Indiana Tech and Dec. 2, 2005 against Kalamazoo.
Purdue Fort Wayne held the Maple Leafs to 22.6% shooting on the day, a season-low for the Mastodon defense, which included 17.6% from beyond the arc. The 'Dons also finished with a season-high 17 assists.
Kierstyn Repp led all players with a season-high 20 points, knocking down four shots from long range. De'Jour Young and Jaelencia Williams both just missed a double-double. Young finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Williams had 13 points, nine boards, and five blocks. Williams' five blocks are the most by a Mastodon since Ariana Simmons also had five against Ball State on Dec. 29, 2013. Hannah Albrecht finished with 11 points and Anna Lappenküper tied a career-high with seven assists.
The Mastodons opened the game scoring 13 consecutive points, holding the Maple Leafs off the scoreboard until a pair of free throws at the 6:16 mark. The 'Dons held a 20-2 lead before Goshen scored its first field goal of the game with 4:01 left in the first period. Purdue Fort Wayne led 26-11 after the first quarter, before putting the game out of reach, building a 27-point halftime lead.
For the game, the 'Dons shot 55.6% (35-63) from the field, 7-of-20 (35%) beyond the arc, and was 9-of-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line.
