Young Scores Career Point No. 1,000 in Loss
12/19/2018 10:09:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - De'Jour Young scored career point No. 1,000 as a Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodon on her way to a double-double, but it was not enough to help her woman's basketball team power past Valparaiso, falling 68-64. The 'Dons drop to 4-8 on the season.
Young became the 20th Mastodon to join the 1,000-point club when Kierstyn Repp hit her with a bounce pass down the lane for a layup at the 6:53 mark of the second. Young went on to finish with a career- and game-high 14 rebounds, to go along with 13 points.
Jaelencia Williams led the 'Dons with 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting and pulled down eight boards. Repp finished with 13 points and Anna Lappenküper added 12.
Purdue Fort Wayne began the game by scoring six straight points, but Valparaiso responded with a 17-3 run from there. The Mastodons regained the lead near the start of the third quarter, thanks for a 15-6 run. The 'Dons continued to lead into the fourth, before a 10-2 run by the Crusaders gave them back the lead for good.
For the night, the Mastodons shot 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the field, 6-of-24 (25%) beyond the arc, and 10-of-20 (50%) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action after the holiday break when the Mastodons begin Summit League play at North Dakota State Friday, December 28 at 6 p.m. ET.
