Mastodons Drop Summit League Opener to Bison

FARGO, N.D. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team dropped its Summit League opener at North Dakota State 70-54. The Mastodons fall to 4-9 on the season.
De'Jour Young led all players with 19 points while pulling down six rebounds. Sh'Toya Sanders grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go along with nine points. Anna Lappenküper finished with a game-high five assists and three steals.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored the opening basket of the game on a Lappenküper layup. The Bison scored the next 10 points as the Mastodons never led again. The 'Dons connected with a pair of bucket to open the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 16-13, but NDSU scored the next 21 points as the Mastodons could not overcome the halftime deficit.
The 'Dons finished the game shooting 22-of-63 (34.9%) from the field, 5-of-14 (35.7%) beyond the arc and 5-of-10 (50%) at the free throw line.
Purdue Fort Wayne wraps up its Summit League road trip when the Mastodons travel to North Dakota to take on the Fighting Hawks in their inaugural Summit League contest Sunday, December 30, at 2 p.m. ET.
