South Dakota Takes League Contest From Fort Wayne 86-69
2/8/2018 11:25:00 PM | Men's Basketball
VERMILLION, S.D. – Bryson Scott went over the 600-point plateau for the season in Fort Wayne's 86-69 loss at South Dakota on Thursday (Feb. 8) at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Mastodons didn't have an ideal start to the game, falling behind 11-0 before a Scott free throw put the 'Dons on the board. South Dakota soon followed with a 10-0 run to take control of the game. The Coyotes built their lead to as many as 26 points in the first half before Fort Wayne cut it to a 45-23 deficit at the break.
Scott entered the game needing five points to reach 600 for the season. He scored 23 points. It is the seventh 600-point season in program history. His 618 points stand as the fifth best single season scoring mark in school history.
The 'Dons cut the deficit to 14 points early in the second half, but it would be as close as Fort Wayne would get. South Dakota and Fort Wayne traded baskets for much of the second half, preventing Fort Wayne from getting back into it.
This was the first game all season the 'Dons never held a lead.
John Konchar recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds for his 35th career double-double.
Fort Wayne finished 37.7 percent (25-of-67) from the floor. South Dakota shot 61.0 percent (36-of-59).
South Dakota improves to 21-6 (9-2 Summit). Fort Wayne falls to 16-11 (5-5 Summit). The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 10) in a Summit League game at Omaha. Tip is set for 8 p.m. ET.
