Women's Golf Turns in Ninth Best Round in Program History

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A strong second round propelled the Fort Wayne women's golf team to a tie for fifth place at the Saluki Invitational with a 36-hole score of 329-312-641.
Hosted by Southern Illinois at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club, the par-72 course was played at 6,075 yards. IUPUI captured the team trophy with a two-round score of 617. It was SIU's Moyea Russell who took home individual medalist honors with a 1-over-par 145.
The 312 during the second round by the Mastodons is tied for the ninth lowest round in program history, and the fifth lowest second-round score. The Mastodons tied with Navy for fifth, and finished four shots back of fourth place Lindenwood.
Madison Chesnutt led the way for the 'Dons carding three birdies during the second round to finish at 1-over-par73. She closed out the day tying 13th place with a 36-hole score of 157. Paige Bird finished in 22nd after shooting rounds of 83-77-160. She led the team with four birdies, all coming in round two, including Nos. 4, 5 and 7. Abigail Carlsen finished one stroke behind to tie her for 23rd place with rounds of 81 and 80. Monica Dorner tied for 35th with an 81-84-165 on the day. Linnzie Richner rounded out the team scoring for the Mastodons with an 89-82-171 to finish tied for 53rd.
Three 'Dons played as individuals during the tournament. Jenna Kurosky shot a team-best 76-79-155, to finish in 11th place. Maggie Connelly finished 59th totaling 92-85-177 on the day. Hannah Jennings placed 77th with a 101-102-203.
The Mastodons return to the course when they host the Fort Wayne Spring Classic April 2-3 at Brookwood Golf Club.
