DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Fort Wayne men's golfer Eric Brinker captured the individual title at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, shooting a 36-hole score of 6-under-par 138.
Hosted by LIU Brooklyn at the par-72, 6,984-yard LPGA International, Bethune-Cookman won by two shots over the Mastodons.
As a team, Fort Wayne shot a final-round 305 to finish the two-day tournament with a 589. The 'Dons finished 21 shots better than third place Bryant.
Brinker won by four shots over second place Connor O'Brien of Bethune-Cookman. Brinker's 138 for 36-holes is the second lowest in program history, topped only by the 137 he shot in the fall season. His 6-under-par is the best by a Mastodon in relation to par. The title is the second in three years by a Fort Wayne golfer at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, joining teammate Zach Schroeder who won the event in 2016.
Finishing in third place was Schroeder, shooting a 1-over-par 73 for the day to finish the tournament with a 2-over-par 146. Clark Tiller tied for 16th place with a two-day score of 153. Finishing in a tie for 28th place was Callahan Elzey with a final total of 156. Cody White rounds out the team scoring for the Mastodons with a 160 and tie for 42nd position.
Josh Keating played as an individual and tied for 42nd place with a 160.
Fort Wayne returns to action March 25-27 for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.
