Men's Golf Battles Through Winter Conditions to Finish Sixth

NORMAL, Ill. - After battling high winds during day one, the Fort Wayne men's golf team had to contend with dropping temperatures and snow conditions during the final day of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. Despite the December like conditions, the Mastodons carded their lowest round of the weekend, a 294, to finish tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of 902.
Hosted by Illinois State at the par-71, 6,915-yard Weibring Golf Club, Duke captured the team title with a two-day score of 871. There was a three-way tie for first place on the individual side at a 4-over-par 217.
The 'Dons finished tied with Bradley, and were one shot back of fifth place SIUE.
Callahan Elzey led the weekend for the Mastodons tying for 21st after shooting a 2-over-par 73 for the day and a 225 for the tournament. Finishing one shot back in a tied for 23rd was Zach Schroeder, who recorded a 74 for the round. Eric Brinker tied for the low round of the day with a 2-over-par 73 to finish at 228 for the weekend and tie for 34th place. Zac Turi carded an 81 for the round to finish tied for 54th place with a 232. Finishing tied for 67th was Cody White, shooting a 74 for the day and a 234 overall.
Fort Wayne wraps up its regular season when it competes at the Wright State Invitational April 16-17.
