Schroeder Leads Summit League Championship After Day One

NEWTON, Kan. - Fort Wayne men's golfer Zach Schroeder leads the Summit League Championship after day one, shooting a 2-under-par 70. As a team, the Mastodons are in fourth place with a score of 299.
Hosted at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course, the par-72 course is being played at 6,733 yards. Denver leads the team standings by two shots with a one-day total of 294.
As a team, the 'Dons sit one shot back of Western Illinois and three back of second place North Dakota State.
Schroeder holds a one-shot lead over South Dakota's Tate Arends. Schroeder finished with four birdies on the day, three of which came on the back-nine, Nos. 2, 13, 17 and 18. He was one of only two golfers on the day to birdie the par-4, 373-yard No. 18.
Finishing day one tied for ninth place was Callahan Elzey with a 2-over-par 74. Zac Turi ended the round tied for 22nd with a 77. One shot back in a tie for 28th is Eric Brinker. Turi and Brinker both finished with three birdies on the day. Josh Keating rounds out the scoring for the Mastodons with an 81 and is in a tie for 36th position.
