Fort Wayne Ends Season with Loss to Lewis in MIVA Quarters

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The No. 15 Fort Wayne men's volleyball team's season ended on Saturday (April 14) with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) loss to No. 10 Lewis in Neil Carey Arena. The Mastodons finished the season with an 18-11 record, holding the most improved win total in the nation from 2017 to 2018.
The Mastodons had a block party in the first set, totaling seven team blocks, four of which came from Colton Stone. The 'Dons also hit .379 for the frame, but could not overcome Mitch Perinar's nine first-set kills. Pelegrin Vargas had four kills on five swings.
Fort Wayne's hitting cooled down, but the 'Dons also held Lewis to its lowest percentage of night with a .258 clip in the second set. In the third, Lewis' offense could not be stopped, as the Flyers hit .500. Alex Dickmann came off the bench in the last set to have five kills and a .333 clip.
Max Hansen came off the bench to serve in the first and second set, tallying two aces. Vargas had three aces, two of which were back-to-back in the last frame. Kolbie Knorr and Vargas led in digs with seven and six respectively.
Vargas finished with 10 kills to lead the Mastodons' offense. Diedrich had six kills, with the sophomore middle hitting .500 for the night. He also led the 'Dons with five blocks. The 'Dons finished with 10 blocks compared to the Flyers' 4.5.
Lewis improves to 19-10, and has a date with the No. 1 seed Ohio State on Wednesday (April 17).
