Schroeder Ties Program Record for Lowest Round

CHESTERTON, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golfer Zach Schroeder tied the program record for lowest round with a 6-under-par 66 during the final day of the Crusader Collegiate. The team shot a 4-under-par 284 during the final round to finish the tournament tied for third place with a 54-hole score of 883.
Hosted at the Sand Creek Country Club by Valparaiso, the par-72 course was played at 6,972 yards. Bradley won the team title with a two-day score of 867. Dan Lensing also from Bradley earned the individual medalist honors with a 5-under-par 211.
The final-round 284 by the Mastodons is tied for the seventh lowest round in program history. The 'Dons finished tied with Loyola-Chicago and were 10 shots back of runner-up Wright State. Purdue Fort Wayne finished 34 strokes better than Summit League foe Western Illinois and 48 better than North Dakota.
Schroeder's 6-under-par 66 was three shots better than any other golfer for the tournament. He tied a mark set by teammate Eric Brinker last season and Bruno Carvalho in 2012. Schroeder carded eight birdies on the afternoon and finished tied for 11th with a 54-hole score of 220.
Eric Brinker led the Mastodons for the tournament, carding a 2-under-par 70 during the final round, to finish the week tied for ninth place with a 219. Brinker finished his day with five birdies in the round. His 54-hole score of 219 is tied for eighth lowest in program history.
Callahan Elzey carded a trio of birdies to finish the week with an even-par 72 to tie for 14th place with a 222. Clark Tiller tied for 27th place with a two-day score of 226, including a 76 during the final round that included an eagle. Luke Miller rounded out the team scoring for the Mastodons with a 76 to finish with a 232 and tie for 42nd.
Playing as an individual, Parker Deakyne carded four birdies to finish at 1-under-par 71 and finish 37th with a 54-hole score of 230.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action October 8 and 9 for the Tom Tontimonia Invitational in Westlake, Ohio.
