Women's Volleyball Runs Winning Streak to Four

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four as the Mastodons defeated Eastern Michigan (25-20. 25-20. 26-24. 25-23) on Arnie Ball Court Tuesday night, Sept. 4.
Elizabeth Fuerst led the 'Dons with a match-high 17 kills and Sydney Boerst added 13. Boerst also had a career-high three aces. Katie Crowe, Nicole Rightnowar, and Madison Jaqua all earned a double-double on the night. Crowe ended the night with 12 kills and 13 digs. Jaqua earned a match-high 52 assists to go along with 10 digs. Rightnowar finished with 13 kills and a team-high 20 digs, including the 1,000th of her career in the first set. She becomes the 20th player in Mastodon history to reach the mark.
Elizabeth Britner had 15 digs and finished with a career-high three aces. Victoria Mills also finished in double-digits with a season-high 13 digs. As a team, the Mastodons finished the night with 10 aces, the most since they also had 10 against South Dakota State on Nov. 7, 2014. All six Mastodons who served in the match finished with at least one ace.
Although Eastern Michigan scored the first point of the match, the Mastodons captured the next three to take a lead they would never relinquish. EMU came back to tie the set at 14-14, but the 'Dons again scored three straight points to go back in front and win the frame.
The two sides traded leads early in the second set. Down 8-7, the Mastodons went on a 4-0 run to take the lead as they kept the Eagles at a distance the rest of the way. Set three saw the teams exchange five leads and 15 tie. In the end, it was the Eagles coming from behind to score three straight points at the end of the set.
EMU opened with the first point of the fourth set, but the Mastodons went on a run to go up 7-3. The Eagles battled back to take the lead thanks to a 12-5 run. The final 10 points went back-and-forth, but in the end, it was the Mastodons scoring five of the final seven points to take the match.
