Mastodons Drop Opening Match of DePaul Invitational

CHICAGO - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped its opening match of the DePaul Invitational, falling to Florida Atlantic 3-1 (28-30, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17). The loss snaps the Mastodons' four-match winning streak.
The 'Dons were led by Nicole Rightnowar with a double-double, 15 kills and 10 digs. She also had a team-high two aces. Elizabeth Fuerst and Katie Crowe each finished with eight kills. Fuerst tied for a match-high with four blocks. Madison Jaqua led the team with 34 assists on the afternoon. Elizabeth Britner finished with a team-high 15 digs.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell behind early in the first, but charged back midway through the set. The 'Dons went on a 10-3 run, taking the lead 18-12. FAU fought back, as the frame went into extra points. Trailing 28-27, the Mastodons pulled off the coming back, scoring three straight points to take the set.
The 'Dons fell behind 5-0 in the second set as they were unable to recover. It was a similar fate for the Mastodons in the third, starting the set down 3-0 and being unable to come from behind. The 'Dons opened the third with the first point, before the Owls scored the next four to take the lead and the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action tomorrow, September 8 to take on UConn at 1:30 pm ET followed by DePaul at 8 p.m. ET.
