FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Thanks to a goal from Kayla Wisniewski, Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer picked up another win in their nonconference with a 1-0 decision over Youngstown State on Friday night (Sept. 7).
The freshman Wisniewski found the net in the 29th minute, breaking away from a defender and beating the YSU keeper one-on-one inside the 18. This was her second goal of the season.
Kendall Quinn had a pair of back-to-back opportunities in the second half after a feed from Wisniewski, touching two chances off the Penguin goalie.
The Mastodons led the contest in shots 14-7 with seven shots on goal. Both squads had two corner kicks. Lorah Pund earned the shutout for the Mastodons in her first career start, finishing the night with four saves.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 2-4-1 while Youngstown State falls to 1-4-2. The 'Dons are back in action on Sunday (Sept. 9) when they travel to Michigan to face off against Detroit Mercy at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
