Crowe Shows Out in Three-Set Win Over Oral Roberts

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Behind Katie Corwe's 15 kills, Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball defeated Oral Roberts 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) on Friday night (Oct. 11) on Arnie Ball Court.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 10-9, 4-1 in the Summit League, tightening its hold on second place in the League standings. Oral Roberts falls to 6-13, 2-3 in the League.
In the opening set, the Mastodons hit .343, with five kills coming from Madelyn Wurster. The 'Dons went on a 4-0 run to go up 17-16, and followed it up shortly after with a 5-1 stretch to close the frame. Sydney Boerst, Crowe and Elizabeth Fuerst each had three kills in the first. There were nine ties and six lead changes in the first, as it was the most competitive of the night.
The 'Dons had their worst offensive set in the second, but still hit .300. Crowe had five kills and five digs in the frame to pace Purdue Fort Wayne. The Golden Eagles took a 12-8 lead after a kill and ace, but the Mastodons pushed back with a 7-1 run. Crowe had two kills in this stretch. The 'Dons headed into the break on a 7-1 run, including the last five points of the second set. Crowe had a solo block on the last point to hold ORU to .073 hitting percentage for the second set.
After the 'Dons returned to the court, the offense clicked, as Purdue Fort Wayne hit .412 in the third. This made the total for the night a season-high .349 hitting percentage. The 'Dons never went on more than a three-point run, but they also never trailed in the third. Crowe was nearly unstoppable, as she had seven kills on eight swings. She ended her night 15-29 for a .483 hitting clip, while picking up 10 digs for a double-double. Rachael Crucis had eight of her match-high 18 digs in the third.
Purdue Fort Wayne is set for a Sunday match (Oct. 13) at Omaha at 2 p.m. ET. The 'Dons will look to go 5-1 in the Summit League for the first time since 2016.
