Mastodons Host Bison and Fighting Hawks This Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball is set for a pair of matchups against North Dakota State and North Dakota on Friday and Sunday. Friday's match against NDSU will be the 12th annual Pink Out.

North Dakota State is 10-12, 5-5 at this juncture in the season, holding wins over Purdue Fort Wayne, Western Illinois, North Dakota, Oral Roberts and South Dakota State. The Bison defeated the Mastodons in Fargo, North Dakota using 16 kills from Alexis Bachmeier, who leads the team in kills this season with 246.
Scouting North Dakota
North Dakota sits at a 10-14, 2-8 Summit League record before entering the weekend. The Fighting Hawks are on a three-match losing streak, but will have a chance to right the ship at Western Illinois on Friday before coming to Fort Wayne on Sunday. UND is led by Ashley Bruggeman, who has 278 kills on the year, which averages to 3.16.
Positively Pink!
Purdue Fort Wayne is set to host its 12th annual Pink Out to benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer on Friday (Nov. 1) with North Dakota State. The first time the women's volleyball team hosted a Pink Out match was in 2008, and ever since then, the event has grown in attendance and funds raised.
Career Nights Lead to Wins
Katie Crowe and Rachael Crucis both had career-highs in the Mastodons' five-set win over South Dakota State. Crowe slammed down 28 kills, which surpassed her previous high of 24. Crucis had 32 digs, which tied her career-high set in September against Central Arkansas.
Sweeping Player of the Week Honors
Purdue Fort Wayne had a pair of Summit League Player of the Week recipients on October 15. Katie Crowe earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor after averaging 4.13 kills per set. Rachael Crucis brought home a Defensive Player of the Week award after racking up 5.5 digs per set against Oral Roberts and Omaha. Crowe and Crucis led the 'Dons to a three-set win over the Golden Eagles and a five-set win over the Mavericks.
Dubba-Yoos
Purdue Fort Wayne is entering the weekend having won 10 out of the last 13 matches. This stretch includes three straight at the Cougar Classic and seven Summit League wins.
Diggin' Up Everything
Rachael Crucis is currently leading the Summit League in a pair of dig categories, with 442 total digs this season and 4.84 digs per set in League play only. She is ahead of Anne Rasmussen in both categories, who has earned five Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors.
