Mastodons Fall to North Dakota State Friday

FARGO, N.D. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball dropped its first match in six tries with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 27-25) loss to North Dakota State on Friday night (Oct. 4).
In the opening frame, NDSU went up 20-14 before the Mastodons went on a six-point run behind Katie Crowe. She had an ace in this stretch. The rest of the set was back and forth, but NDSU took the last two points after the seesaw ending.
Second set was mostly Bison, as they led by as many as seven at 22-15. The 'Dons took three straight to get within four, but NDSU took three of the last four.
Purdue Fort Wayne rattled off seven straight points in the third set behind Sidney Schiller's serve to go up 12-5, in which she dropped two aces. NDSU responded with five in a row. The Bison took six of the last eight points to take the match.
Schiller had eight kills with a .300 percentage, paired with a team-high 12 digs. Madison Gates ran the offense on her own for the first time, as the Mastodons ran a 5-1 offense, and she totaled a second-best of her career 32 assists.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 8-9, 2-1 Summit League. The Bison improve to 6-9, 1-2 Summit League. The Mastodons will stay in North Dakota for a few more days, as they visit the Fighting Hawks in Grand Forks on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
